Livello 23 : Blinds 20,000/40,000, 40,000 ante
Glenn Fishbein
Glenn Fishbein

Three out of the five scheduled levels on Day 5 of the 2023 WSOP Main Event have been completed inside the Horseshoe Event Center. So far, an initial field of 441 hopefuls has been cut into more than half as some 211 players still have chips at their disposal.

They will be back at approximately 7:57 p.m. local time for level 24, which features blinds of 25,000-50,000 and a big blind ante of 50,000.

New chip leaders were crowned in Bryan Obregon and Glenn Fishbein while Nikita Luther continued her deep run as one of the big stacks as well. Below are some of the highlights during the previous two hour session at the tables.

Obregon Spikes the Turn to Cross Ten Million

Bryan Obregon
Bryan Obregon

Bryan Obregon has been on a relentless tear up the chip count leaderboard today, and his latest victim was Christopher Ahrens.

Obregon and Ahrens were heads-up on a flop of 3J7 when Ahrens moved all in for 300,000 from the big blind and Obregon called from early position.

Christopher Ahrens: J10
Bryan Obregon: 109

Ahrens was ahead with a pair of jacks, but his hope proved short-lived as the 8 turn improved Obregon to a straight. The river fell the Q and Obregon sent Ahrens to the rail and his stack up past 10,000,000 heading to the dinner break.

Westmorland Lets It Go

Livello 23 : Blinds 20,000/40,000, 40,000 ante

Bryan Obregon raised to 100,000 from under the gun and Jordan Westmorland called from the cutoff. From the button, Ahmad Popal came along as well while the blinds folded.

On the Q23 flop, Obregon checked and Westmorland made a bet of 175,000. Popal called and Obregon folded.

The 6 turn then fell and Westmorland bet another 650,000. Popal then went all-in for 1,485,000 and sent Westmorland into the tank. After asking for a count, he ultimately decided to fold and save the 800,000 chips.

Popal would show 33 to the table for a flopped set as he raked in his newly acquired chips.

Betito Among the Leaders

Livello 23 : Blinds 20,000/40,000, 40,000 ante

Pol Vela raised to 80,000 in early position and was called by Matthias Auer. Liran Betito three-bet to 330,000 on the button and Vela took a minute before shoving all in for around 1,600,000. Auer got out of the way and Betito quickly called.

Pol Vela: AQ
Liran Betito: AK

Betito held a dominating advantage and the board of 109539 changed nothing as Vela was eliminated.

Jaka Whiffs Against Boghean

Livello 23 : Blinds 20,000/40,000, 40,000 ante
Faraz Jaka
Faraz Jaka

Heads-up on a flop of 533, Andrei Boghean bet 300,000 from the button before Faraz Jaka, in the hijack, raised to 700,000.

Boghean spent a few moments counting out his stack before reraising to 1,300,000. It was then Jaka's time to tank before he announced he was all in. Boghean instantly flung in a chip to signify a call.

Faraz Jaka: 87
Andrei Boghean: KK

Jaka was looking to complete his flush draw against Boghean's kings. The 8 turn gave him additional outs, but Jaka missed everything on the J river. The stacks were counted down and Boghean narrowly had Jaka's remaining 1,800,000 covered to send him to the rail.

Paper Wasted in the Silver Section

Livello 23 : Blinds 20,000/40,000, 40,000 ante

Chris Lee opened to 80,000 from the hijack and the cutoff called before Matthias Auer three-bet to 285,000 on the button.

Action got back to Lee and he three-bet jammed a stack of around 2,600,000 to bring a quick fold from the hijack as Auer squirmed in his chair. Auer clearly didn't like the situation and put in a crying call as he quickly flipped his hand face-up as if ripping off a Band-Aid.

Chris Lee: AK
Matthias Auer: AK

Both players had ace-king and there were no sweats as the board ran out 10J7KJ for the two to chop the pot.

"Come on, Seat 1, you're never folding ace-king," a table mate teased Auer as others were ready to move onto the next hand.

"Four guys just wasted a page of paper," Chris Hak said after the anticlimactic ending to the hand that had the attention of several reporters and cameramen.

On the turn of Q975, Aaron Speer checked to Artem Metaladi who put in a bet of 280,000 into the pot of a little more than 400,000. Speer check-raised all-in for 870,000, putting Metalidi in the tank. After about three and a half minutes, Metalidi made the call.

Aaron Speer: 95
Artem Metalidi: KQ

Speer turned two pair against Metalidi's top pair and was able to hold as the J rolled off on the river.
