Props, Family & Fortnite: For the Four Members of Team Lucky It's About Much More Than Poker

Livello 31 : Blinds 100,000/200,000, 200,000 ante
Team Lucky
Team Lucky

With 14 bracelets and nearly $50 million in tournament earnings between the four of them, there's no denying that Shaun Deeb, Josh Arieh, Daniel Weinman and Matt Glantz are poker crushers. But with resumes that include a $1 million bounty pull, a body fat prop bet victory worth nearly the same amount and a win in the biggest World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event in history, it's clear the group of close friends also have luck on their sides.

The four American poker players have branded themselves as "Team Lucky" — a name that Deeb may have come up with, though they aren't certain — as a way of consciously embracing and owning their good fortunes while fighting back against the jaded cynicism all to common in the poker world.

But Team Lucky is about more than once-in-a-lifetime bounty binks and turned two-outers leading to $12 million scores. As PokerNews learned during brunch with its four members, is more about friendship, camaraderie, and shared values than a good run of cards.

David Goodman Eliminated in 8th Place ($47,632)

Livello 31 : Blinds 100,000/200,000, 200,000 ante
David Goodman
David Goodman

David Goodman found himself as one of the short stacks deep into Level 31 and found a hand to make his stand with an all-in bet.

Unfortunately, he ran into Antonio Galiana, the chip leader, who made the call on the button to put Goodman at risk.

David Goodman: 1010 All in
Antonio Galiana: QQ

The dealer fanned 854 on the flop, keeping Galiana in the lead. The Q on the turn gave Galiana top set and a hammerlock on the hand, as the J fell harmless on the river to give Galiana the hand and knockout.

David Goodman exits in 8th place for $47,632.

What Makes Phil Ivey the Poker G.O.A.T.?

Livello 31 : Blinds 100,000/200,000, 200,000 ante
Phil Ivey
Phil Ivey

Michael Jordan (sorry, LeBron James fans). Tom Brady. Tiger Woods. Serena Williams. Phil Ivey. What do these five superstars have in common? They're all widely considered the best to have ever done it in their respective sports.

On Thursday, Ivey captured his 11th World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet when he took down Event #29: $10,000 Limit 2-7 Lowball Triple Draw Championship (6-Handed). That puts him alone in second place behind the 17 bracelets Phil Hellmuth holds.

Eoghan O'Dea

Action started with Juha Helppi opening to 400,000 from the hijack. Eoghan O'Dea was next to act. He went all in for 4,120,000.

The button and small blind folded. Romain Lewis was in the big blind and reshoved all-in. Helppi folded.

Eoghan O'Dea: AQAll in
Romain Lewis: AK

The flop was 45K and O'Dea was all but done. The turn 4 and the 6 river finished him off.

Helppi Scores a Double Up

Juha Helppi

Juha Helppi moved all in from early position for his remaining stack, which was a little more than 2,000,000.

Action folded to Joshua Reichard, who called to put Helppi at risk.

Juha Helppi: KJ All in
Joshua Reichard: 1010

The dealer fanned 375 on the flop, keeping Reichard ahead. Helppi picked up four to the flush in addition to his two over cards to Reichard’s pocket pair.

The 8 on the turn didn’t help Helppi, but the 5 on the river completed his flush to give him a double up.

Meanwhile, Reichard has been going in the opposite direction since sitting down at the redraw with more than 11,000,000.

Galiana Rebuilding Stack

Livello 30 : Blinds 80,000/160,000, 160,000 ante
Antonio Galiana
Antonio Galiana

Antonio Galiana entered Day 3 as the big stack, but he’s taken some blows and was sitting on 7,600,000 when the redraw occurred.

He's apparently overcome the slow start, though, as he’s added to his chip count with aggressive play.

One such example occurred against Romain Lewis, who raised in late position. Galiana who was in the big blind, called.

The dealer fanned 1024 on the board, and Galiana checked. Lewis bet 225,000, but Galiana check-raised to 805,000.

Lewis gave it some thought before eventually folding, and the pot was pushed to Galiana.

David Hoffenberg Eliminated in 10th Place ($29,006)

Livello 30 : Blinds 80,000/160,000, 160,000 ante
David Hoffenberg
David Hoffenberg

David Hoffenberg came to the unofficial final table with just 600,000 chips, less than four big blinds. He had only 200,000 chips or just over a big blind left on his last hand. He went all in from early position. Play folded to Juha Helppi in the small blind, who called. Eoghan O'Dea also called. They went three-way to the flop with Hoffenberg already all in.

The flop was QQ9. Both Helppi and O'Dea checked. The same action repeated on the 8 turn.

The river was the J. Helppi checked again, but O'Dea bet 300,000. Helppi folded.

It was time to show down the hands and O'Dea then turned over 103 for the rivered straight. Hoffenberg was visibly disappointed and eventually showed the table KQ for flopped trips.
