Nicholas Rigby Talks "Dirty Diaper" Strategy in the 2023 WSOP Main Event

Livello 21 : Blinds 10,000/25,000, 25,000 ante
Nicholas Rigby
Nicholas Rigby

Pittsburgh's Nicholas Rigby made a name for himself in the poker community in 2021 when he ran deep in the World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event by playing deuce-three offsuit at every given opportunity. Known as the "The Dirty Diaper" in his local games, Rigby kept his opponents guessing by bluffing, value betting and doing everything else in between with the less-than-premium holding.

Two years later, Rigby again finds himself making a deep run in poker's most prestigious event. And for those wondering, he hasn't forgotten about The Dirty Diaper, a hand he used to build up a Day 1d chip lead that further grew on Day 2d to see him bag the second biggest stack in the room.

PokerNews caught up with Rigby on Day 3 to talk about his tried-and-true loose-aggressive strategy in the WSOP Main Event. Heading into Day 5, Rigby finds himself with a stack of 3,655,000 near the top of the chip counts.

Lead Jam Works Out for Kothari

Livello 21 : Blinds 10,000/25,000, 25,000 ante

Harsheel Kothari open-raised from early position before Tinay Aksoy three-bet from the hijack. Kothari called and a pot of 360,000 chips was ceated.

The flop was then dealt 627 and Kothari check-called a 225,000 bet from Aksoy. The J turn subsequentially graced the felt and Kothari promptly led out for his entire stack, 1200000.

Aksoy tanked for a couple of minutes before eventually folding. Kothari was elated with winning the pot and claimed to have been bluffing.

"I'll bet my entire net worth that was not a bluff," Aksoy stated when the cards were already in the muck.

No Peppin' In His Step

Livello 21 : Blinds 10,000/25,000, 25,000 ante

Svetlana Gromenkova opened to 55,000 from under the gun and Daniel Weinman three-bet to 140,000 on her left. Stephen Peppin four-bet to 325,000 on the button and the action folded back to Weinman who five-bet shoved all in.

Peppin was put to the test with just over 700,000 chips behind. After going into the tank for around two minutes, Peppin finally decided to fold his KK face up, sending the pot to Weinman.

"Wooow!" Sung Lee at the table was in shock.

"I think it's a good fold," another player acknowledged.

Vierling Misses Everything Against Kolev

Livello 21 : Blinds 10,000/25,000, 25,000 ante
Jessica Vierling
Jessica Vierling

Boris Kolev raised to 50,000 from under the gun before Jessica Vierling, in middle position, three-bet to 125,000. The table folded back around to Kolev, who called to go heads-up to the flop.

The dealer turned over K35 and Kolev checked over to Vierling, who bet 30,000. Kolev called to the 9 turn, where he check-called another bet of 200,000.

Kolev also checked the 2 river and this time Vierling checked back. Kolev turned over 88.

"Aw, I had so many outs. Like a gazillion. Every ten, every jack, every heart," Vierling said as she mucked.

Becker Leads Two Streets, Can't Shake Lazaro Off Underpair

Livello 21 : Blinds 10,000/25,000, 25,000 ante
Jeremy Becker
Jeremy Becker

Rene Lazaro opened to from middle position and mid-stakes tournament prodigy Jeremy Becker defended out of the big blind.

Becker, seated aside fellow tournament crusher Chance Kornuth, checked on the 4JJ flop and called as Lazaro continued for 25,000. Becker then led out for 105,000 on the Q turn and Lazaro called.

The 6 river completed the board and Becker sized up to 285,000. Lazaro counted out his stack before eventually calling. Becker sheepishly turned over a bluff with K9 for king-high and Lazaro tabled an underpair with 33 to win the pot.
