Chen Takes One At Showdown

Livello 23 : Blinds 20,000/40,000, 40,000 ante

The action folded around to James Chen in the small blind who made it 120,000 to go and Ankit Ahuja came along in the big blind.

The flop came 1063 and Chen continued for 80,000, which Ahuja called. On the 2 turn Chen kept the betting lead with a size of 130,000 and again Ahuja made the call.

The J hit the river and both players quickly checked to a showdown. Chen rolled over 77 for a pair of sevens and Ahuja double checked his cards before tossing them into the muck.

The Two Failed Bluffs in One Week that Cost Doug Polk $700k

Livello 22 : Blinds 15,000/30,000, 30,000 ante
Doug Polk
Doug Polk

Chris Moneymaker had the Bluff of the Century in 2003. This past week, Doug Polk had perhaps the Failed Bluff of the Century.

On Sunday, heads-up for a bracelet, Polk bluffed off a significant portion of his stack at the 2023 World Series of Poker (WSOP) less than one week after his infamous bluff attempt that didn't get through on Hustler Casino Live's $1 million game.

In both instances, the Upswing Poker founder had a busted draw and attempted to use aggression to coerce his opponents into folding somewhat marginal holdings in massive pots. Both times, however, his efforts were unsuccessful and quite costly.

Chen Picks Off Bluff From Hayami

Livello 22 : Blinds 15,000/30,000, 30,000 ante

Masaya Hayami opened to 60,000 from early position and only James Chen made the call in the cutoff.

The pair saw a flop of KQ10 and Hayami continued for 80,000, which Chen called. On the 7 turn Hayami kept up the aggression with a bet of 120,000, and again Chen tossed in chips for the call.

The 3 completed the board and Hayami took a moment before sliding out a bet of 150,000. Chen contemplated his options, but eventually put in the chips for a call.

Hayami rolled over 109 for a pair of tens and Chen confidently tabled AQ for a pair of queens to score the pot.
