Day 2 Complete: 28 Remain with Merrifield On Top

Livello 20 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

Day 2 of Event #28: $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em is in the books. Play began a tad after 4:00 PM PT yesterday and after another long ten levels of poker were played, just 28 players are still in contention for the gold bracelet. Leading them all is Steven Merrifield with 1.025 million in chips.

After 349 players returned for Day 2, the eliminations came rapidly right through the money bubble. Some of those who finished in the money, but failed to make it through the day included Randal Flowers (48th), Martin Kabrhel (76th), Ty Reiman (94th), Eugene Todd (104th), Michael Katz (127th) and Brent Hanks (247th). All of them earned some return on their investment, but none will able to capture the gold in this event.

Still remaining are Andy Frankenberger, Jacobo Fernandez, Mickey Petersen, Matt Graham and Tyler Kenney. That's some pretty big firepower that remains from a massive starting field of 2,500 players.

Play will start back up again Saturday at 4:00 PM PT. The plan is to play through another ten levels or until a champion is crowned. We're guessing it's going to be ten levels and then need a fourth day, but don't hold us to that. Whatever happens, you can bet that PokerNews will be right there to provide it for you.

In the video below, Lynn "The All-In Kangaroo" Gilmartin and Kristy "The Poker Ninja" Arnett recap all the highlights and champions from the third week of the 42nd Annual World Series of Poker. Believe us when we say that it's worth watching until the last few seconds...

We'll see you all tomorrow, and again, thanks for following along!
