The players may have started with 30,000 and blinds of 25/50 but that has not stopped Herve Santais from donating his entire stack to Roberto Garcia. We did not see the hand but we saw Santais walking away looking rather sheepish and Garcia stacking up a monster pile of chips!
Tournament Director Jack Effel has just informed the players that he has ordered some new 5,000 chips to be brought into play because the ones the players currently have in their possession are very similar to the 100 chips.
The new chips still look similar to the 100's but are oversized so the players will be able to distinguish between the two more easily.
The 2011 World Series of Poker Main Event is just minutes away and we are looking at a massive field already for Day 1a. If the screens around the tournament area are correct then there is a staggering 275 players registered already for Day 1a alone!
Amongst them, according to various Tweets flying around cyberspace, are November Nine members Ben Lamb, Phil Collins and Sam Holden, Chris Moorman, Johnny Chan and Roberto Romanello who is chasing a Triple Crown of major live titles.
Also spotted waiting outside the tournament area are Vanessa Selbst, Michael Watson, recent bracelet winner Tristan Wade and a whole host of well-known faces and top poker players, so many that we could quite easily fill an entire page with their names! Hold onto your hats, this should be a superb tournament.
