Cody Daniels' Unstoppable Spirit Shines in WSOP Main Event Despite Terminal Illness

At the 2023 World Series of Poker, poker player Cody Daniels inspired the poker community with his strength and determination when taking on Poker's World Championship while battling a terminal illness.

This summer, the Lake Havasu City native returned to the WSOP, first playing Event #70: $400 Colossus before hopping into the record-breaking 2024 WSOP Main Event. Daniels managed to navigate the bubble, which burst earlier in the afternoon, and currently sits with a stack of 300,000 (25 big blinds) at the halfway point of Day 4.

In the midst of his pursuit of the WSOP Main Event bracelet and the $10 million first-place prize, PokerNews caught up with the 29-year-old. Daniels shared his experiences, emotions, and the extraordinary support he's received throughout his journey.

Machado Leads On Dinner; Pedersen Joins the Big Stacks

Manuel Machado had won a big pot to leave Ryan Sang short and may become the first player with an eight-figure stack.

Not far behind is Denmark's Mathias Pedersen, who just emptied the clip against Yuan Yu in the last hand before the dinner break.

Yu opened to 80,000 from under the gun and Pedersen three-bet to 210,000 from two seats over for Yu to call.

Following the Q♦5♠5♣ flop, Yu check-called for 150,000 and did so again for 450,000 on the 2♦ turn. The 7♦ river completed the board and Yu checked the third street in a row with less than pot size behind. Pedersen moved all-in and Yu tank-folded.

Tryon Takes from Shah

Just before the dinner break, action was followed from a 3♠J♠J♥ flop. Robert Tryon checked the flop from the small blind, sitting with K♦K♣, and the action was on Kavin Shah from under the gun.

Shah checked his Q♠Q♥, which took the players to the 8♣ turn. Tryon bet 180,000 and Shah made the call.

The K♠ gave Tryon the full house and he bet 1,360,000, effectively putting Shah all in, leaving himself 265,000 behind. Shah tanked and found a fold, leaving Tryon to scoop the pot.

Shylko Wins a Healthy Pot Before Dinner

On a board of J♠J♦3♦9♦2♠, there were around 1,000,000 chips in the pot when Aliaksandr Shylko had bet 750,000 on the river into Biao Ding. The Chinese player was deep into his thought process in a hand that had dived around four minutes into the dinner break, and eventually made the call.

Shylko announced a flush and tabled K♦6♦, and Ding mucked.

Medic Sent to the Rail

Toby Gibson, who was in an early position, callled a jam from Nenad Medic for 460,000 who was in a middle position.

Medic was ahead and things stayed that way on the A♥J♠6♣ flop, and the Q♠ turn.

The 3♠ changed everything as it brought in two pair for Gibson, which sent Medic to the rail.
