A player in late position raised to 900 and only Gustavo Flores on the button called, bringing out a 365 flop.

The late position player wasted no time in betting 16,400 to put Flores in for his remaining chips and Flores quickly called, putting himself at risk and sending him and his opponent to a runout.

Early Elimination At Persinger Table

A player opened to 800 in early position and Lori Persinger called in middle position. The cutoff decided to raise it to 3,500 and the button called.

The open raiser four-bet to 13,800, Persinger folded, and the cutoff called, as did the button.

On the flop 2Q2, the open-raiser checked, the cutoff checked, but the button moved all in for 35,000. The opener folded but not the cutoff.

Patterson Top Dog with Top Pair

Brian Patterson limped under the gun only to see the player in the cutoff raise to 600. The big blind called, as did Patterson, leading to a 5410 flop.

The big blind and Patterson checked over to the cutoff, who continued with a bet of 1,800. The big blind folded and Patterson came along to an A turn card.

Patterson checked again and called a bet of 2,200 from the cutoff, bring the 7 out on the river.

Action checked through to showdown and when Patterson turned up the A2, his opponent quickly mucked, awarding the pot to Patterson.

Kooner Catches Straight

A player under the gun raised to 400 and Kal Kooner called from the cutoff as did the player in the big blind leading to a 6QK flop.

The big blind and the under the gun player both checked to Kooner, who stuck out a bet of 500, which got called by both the big blind and the player under the gun to bring out the 10 turn card.

Action checked through on the turn and all three watched as the dealer put the 8 out on the river.

The big blind checked to the under-the-gun player who tossed out a bet of 2,400. Kooner counted out calling chips and thought briefly before tossing the into the pot, prompting a fold from the big blind.

The under-the-gun player showed A10 which was second best to the 97 (ten-high straight) held by Kooner as he drags a nice pot early in Day 1.

Shuffle Up And Deal

Tournament director Jack Effel made a small speech with a USO representative and a military color guard brought the US flag. Then, world-renowned entertainer and Las Vegas icon Wayne Newton came to the stage and announced the "shuffle up and deal."

Following a 15-minute delay, cards are in the air for Event #56: $500 Salute to Warriors No-Limit Hold'em in Paris Ballroom with more than 2,062 players already registered. Players will start with a stack of 50,000 chips on 40-minute levels.

One reentry is allowed. Late registration will close at the start of Level 10 (about 5 p.m.). There are a total of 17 levels being played today. Throughout the day, there will be 15-minute breaks every three levels and a 75-minute dinner break at the end of Level 12, approximately 7 p.m.
