Pagels' Makes Right Read, Stacks Opponent
Matt Pagels was in early position and got tangled up with an opponent in late position preflop, which saw a little more than 20,000 in the pot.
The dealer fanned 2♣10♣2♠, and Pagels bet 8,000, which his opponent called.
The turn saw K♦ and some fireworks. Pagels led out with 12,000, putting his opponent in the tank. After close to a full minute, Pagels watched as the other player moved all in for 54,500.
Pagel, who easily covered his opponent, didn’t immediately make the call. Instead, he looked at the board, and then his opponent. He eventually called to put his opponent at risk.
“Do you have a king?” Pagels asked as he tabled J♥10♥.
The other player didn’t have top pair, rather a gut-shot straight draw when he tabled A♦Q♦. The straight, though, didn’t come as blanks appeared on the turn and river to give Pagels the hand, which sent his opponent to the rail.
