Action folded to Chris Hunichen in the small blind who raised to 1,600,000 leaving himself 200,000 behind. Johann Ibanez in the big blind immediately jumped up, announcing all in.
Ibanez acted so quickly and strong because it was clear that Hunichen had committed himself, but this is where the hand gets interesting.
With one player left to bust before the unofficial final table and on a $17,000 pay ladder, Hunichen looked over to the other table to see that Samy Boujmala had raised to 1,200,000 on the button which saw Mark Ioli move all in with the covering stack for Boujmala's final 800,000 more.
With the realization that both tables had ended up in the same scenario, Hunichen and Boujmala at the other table waiting to make a decision now entered into a dead lock waiting game.
After roughly 15 minutes, the floor ruled that if the results of the hand saw two players eliminated, the player with the lesser of the two chip stacks would receive the lower pay.
Boujmala called and the cards were on their backs.
Samy Boujmala: A♦Q♦
Mark Ioli: 10♣10♠
The board ran out Q♠J♥7♦6♠3♥ and the French rail went wild as Boujmala doubled up through Ioli.
Just after that, Hunichen put the rest of his chips in to head to a runout with his tournament life at risk.
Chris Hunichen: A♠9♦
Johann Ibanez: 8♦8♠
The board ran out Q♠A♦8♣7♦6♦ and Hunichen was eliminated in eighth place for $50,948.
