The betting lead bounced back and forth until on seventh street he had 450,000 to spend. As he had all day when faced with a tough decision, Baker stacked and restacked his chips, counted the pot, and then put his tournament life on the line.
Liberto spent even longer on his decision, talking to himself as he replayed the hand, counted, doing math, all the while grabbing chips and giving them quick riffles.
He called and asked if Baker had gotten there [to a nine low]. "I had it the whole time," he said, exposing an ace and a deuce. "I didn't even look at the last card," he said and pulled in the life-saving pot.
