Dinner Time

Livello 3 : 150/300, 0 ante

The metaphorical dinner bell has sounded here in the Amazon Room, and the players have been released for their ninety-minute break.

Our Day 1c field has topped out at 2,181 players, pushing the total count for the first three days up over the 4,000 mark. Things are looking good for the over-6,000 bettors.

Over the course of the shakedown that is the first three levels, a few notable players were pulled under, unable to dodge the minefield on their opening day. Most notably, the 2003 Main Event champion, Chris Moneymaker made his exit during the third level of the day. Also falling was the cricketing legend of Australia (Shane Warne), the funny guy (Ray Romano), a trio of 2011 bracelet winners (Jason Somerville, Fabrice Soulier, and Allen Bari), and the oldest player in the event, Ellen Deeb.

Those are the have-nots, but we have a few notables "haves" too. Massimiliano Martinez was sitting atop the counts for much of the last level with over 100,000 chips, but took a hit in the final hand before break to fall back to the pack. Mark Newhouse has been the primary beneficiary of Martinez's losses. Meanwhile, Sorel Mizzi, Shannon Shorr, Erik Seidel, John Tabatabai, and Kenneth Friis are all big movers during the first 60% of this Day 1c, having built some of the bigger stacks around.

Our surviving hungry players are out of here for ninety minutes, and play will resume just before 8:30 P.M.

Newhouse Dents Martinez's Stack More On Last Hand of Level

Livello 3 : 150/300, 0 ante

Mark Newhouse has certainly been making things difficult for one-time chip leader Massimiliano Martinez.

Their latest battle lasted a few minutes into the dinner break. The board read {K-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}{J-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} and Martinez called 14,000 from Newhouse, but when the {9-Spades} hit the river, he found himself faced with a Newhouse all-in shove for about 33,000.

Martinez muttered to himself, "Sick, sick, sick," a few times before giving it up.

" I hope you didn't have a set of kings," said Newhouse, showing {Q-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}.

Martinez said he had aces and is now down to about 55,000. Newhouse, meanwhile, is up to about 87,600.

Pierce Gets His Groove On

Livello 3 : 150/300, 0 ante

As we were walking around getting some chip counts we noticed a bit of music coming from Paul Pierce's table. When we went over to investigate we found Pierce involved in a blind vs. blind battle.

The board was already showing the {j-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{2-Spades}{k-Diamonds} and the small blind had checked it over to Pierce who bet 6,000. Pierce's headphones were down around his neck but with the volume turned up we could hear a steady beat coming from them which Pierce was grooving to as he waited for his opponent to act. The small blind eventually decided to fold and Pierce said "good fold" as he showed his {k-Spades}{6-Spades} for top pair with a flush draw.

Pierce was up to around 67,000 after the hand.

Pritchett Chips Up

Livello 3 : 150/300, 0 ante

Paul "Ace in the Hole" Pritchett has moved up to 56,000 after a big hand played out over on table 290 before the dinner break.

On a flop that read {4-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}, the player in the big blind checked to Pritchett who bet 1,600 from the button; the big blind called, then check-called again after Pritchett's bet of 2,750 on the turn of the {5-Diamonds} before checking again on the river {J-Diamonds}.

Pritchett bet 5,200 and the big blind went into the tank before folding his hand.
