When play came to a halt at the end of Day 1, the tournament clock stated that 189 players remained; however, it was a bit off as only 173 players will be returning for Day 2 of Event #57 $5,000 Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-low Split-8 or Better. They will all be looking to crack the top 36 and lay claim to their portion of a $1,654,400 prize pool, with $397,073 set aside for first.
Yesterday, 352 players entered our event, an increase of nearly 25% from 2010. Gary Bolden ended Day 1 as the chip leader with 98,300. Hot on his heels are Eric Crain (96,500), Austin Marks (89,500), John Caridad (78,500), Max Pescatori (72,000), Alexandre Gomes (70,400), Joe Tehan (69,500), Daniel Fuhs (66,400), Ali Eslami (64,600), and Dan Shak (62,600).
Joining the big stacks is a laundry list of notables including Mike “The Mouth” Matusow (20,700), Huck Seed (14,400), David “Doc” Sands (33,600), Erik Seidel (57,500), Allen Kessler (58,500), Chris Bjorin (53,400), David Bach (49,900), Phil Laak (39,400), and Nick Binger (48,400).
The tournament will resume at 3:00 p.m. PST, which is just over 40 minutes from right now. The plan for the day is to play ten levels, during which we’ll more than likely burst the money bubble. Play hasn't even started yet but the floor was just called over to one table. Turns out a player had forgotten his ID in his hotel room. Let this serve as a reminder to anyone playing in any of the tournaments still remaining, please bring your ID!

Tim West came into today with just 4,100, or equal to 5 big blinds, so we knew he would get involved early. We went over to his table, and saw that Daniel Alaei, Alex Freiberg, and Jean Said had all limped in preflop, and West checked in the big blind. The flop came out 
, and after checking his cards again, West threw in the rest of his chips. Alaei folded, but Freiberg annouced pot. Said got out of the way, and the players flipped their cards up.

"Of course" is all that West could say, as he saw that despite flopping the nuts, he would still have to dodge the flush draw. The turn came the 
, and the river came the 
. West made sure that his opponent didn't fill up on the river, and gladly took in the 1,000 chips he split with Freiberg.
We're not sure of the details, but we can confirm that Canadian Pat Pezzin is an early-Day 2 casualty.

Eli Elezra and Igor Sharaskin both limped from middle position before Andreas Krause raised to 4,400. Juan Caridad called from the small blind and Elezra called all in for exactly 4,400. Sharaskin reraised the pot which forced Krause to put in his final couple thousand chips and Caridad to fold at which point the hands were turned face up.

The board ran out 
and all three players had the nut low. It was Krause, however, that had a straight to the six and was able to scoop the high and force the other two players to take just one-sixth of the pot each.
Huck Seed raised to 2,000 in middle position and was three-bet by Patrick Goulding to 7,000 on the button. Seed made the call and then checked on the 
flop. Goulding went all in and Seed called leaving himself not much behind if he lost as the players showed their hands.

Seed’s pair of fives were in the lead for the time being with both players having low draws. The on the turn made Goulding the nut low and Seed said, “Uh-oh”. However the river was the 
to counterfeit Goulding’s nut low and give Seed a better low which his fives held for the high half to scoop the pot and eliminate Goulding.

Action folded to David Williams in the cutoff and he put in a raise to 2,000, which Tobias Reinkemeier called from the button. Both blinds got out of the way and it was heads up to the 
flop. Williams checked, Reinkemeier bet 3,700, Williams check-raised all in for 16,100, and Reinkemeier made the call.

The 
turn left Williams in bad shape as Reinkemeier had hit two pair; not only that, the latter had a higher flush draw and a better low draw. The dealer burned and put out the . Williams realized Reinkemeier hit his low and had an ace-high flush, so he stood to make his exit.
"Straight flush," Mike Matusow proclaimed. Sure enough, Williams had hit a straight flush to lay claim to the high hand and half the pot. In the end it was a chop, but it was a fairly exciting one at that.
