Ben Who?

Livello 7 : 150/300, 25 ante

You may have already noticed the massive stack that just keeps growing on our chip counts page. He is currently crushing the 2nd, 3rd and 4th place stacks in our counts of Sorel Mizzi, Tyler Patterson and Tom Dwan. So who is Ben Volpe?

Well, he's certainly been making a name for himself this World Series. He has already cashed three times and made one final table, eventually finishing 6th in Event #34, a $1,000 No-Limit Hold'em tournament. He also came in 30th in the $5,000 No-Limit Hold'em Triple Chance tournament. Along with his brother, Paul, who has cashed four times this summer (in four different games), it's safe to say we should know who Ben Volpe is by now.

His current stack rests at 133,000. To put that into perspective for this stage of the tournament, that is more chips than three tables had combined when we started the day. It's also larger than the average stack will be when we have just 115 competitors left. Considering that we still have over 1,200 players, that is a pretty impressive start after only seven hours of play.

Shawn Marion still winning pots.
Shawn Marion still winning pots.

NBA All-Star Shawn Marion was looking at a raise of 800 in the big blind. With only the original raiser left in the hand, Marion moved all in for just over 2,800. The original raiser took a moment to fold his hand and Marion is up to 3,200.

Lichtenberger Slips

A player in early position raised to 650 before Andrew Lichtenberger came in with a re-raise worth 1,450; the action then folded around to his opponent who called before both players checked down the flop of {8-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} and the turn of the {J-Diamonds}.

The player then bet 1,200 on the river of the {2-Diamonds} and Lichtenberger mulled it over before making a crying call, only to muck his hand after the player showed {6-Hearts}{6-Clubs} for the set.

Dwan Down

The action folded around to the player on the button who open-shoved for 2,425 before the flop; the player on the small blind folded, but Tom Dwan thought about it for a short while before making a value call with {K-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}.

The button quickly rolled up {A-Clubs}{10-Clubs} and it held after the dealer spread the board of {8-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{7-Hearts}{2-Spades}. Not that it matters to Dwan at this stage - he's still sitting comfortably with about 40,000 in chips.
