Whitis Scores a Double

Stud 8/B

David Whitis: {2-Spades}{2-Hearts} / {2-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}{J-Spades} / {5-Hearts}
Travis Pearson: {7-Spades}{4-Clubs} / {4-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{Q-Hearts}{8-Clubs} / {3-Diamonds}
Shaun Deeb: {x-}{x-} / {6-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{9-Hearts} -- FOLDED

Whitis put out the bring-in and Pearson completed before Shaun Deeb called from the six-seat. Whitis then proceeded to raise and both Pearson and Deeb called before Whitis led out on fourth street. Both Pearson and Deeb called, then Whitis opened again on fifth street.

This time, Pearson raised, forcing Deeb out of the way, and Whitis called all-in, turning up his hole cards with a flourish.

"Pair of deuces in the hole, one time baby!" Whitis cried. They held all the way, and with Pearson not holding a qualifying low,Whitis scooped the pot and doubled up.

Deeb Demolished, Part I

Livello 23

Stud 8/b

We picked up the action on fourth street, heads-up between Josh Wieland and Shaun Deeb.

Weiland: (x-x) / {2-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{5-Diamonds} / (x)
Shaun Deeb: (x-x) / {6-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} / (x)

On fourth when we walked up, Deeb was check-calling a bet, and he did the same on fifth street. Weiland got more big bets in on sixth and seventh, too, and Deeb called him all the way down. Weiland announced, "Straight," and showed {3-Spades}{4-Hearts}{6-Clubs} / {2-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{5-Diamonds}.

"What's your low?" Deeb leaned over the table to assess. He couldn't beat the six-low either, and that's a scoop for Weiland. He's pushed his stack all the way up to 355,000 with that pot, knocking Deeb out of the perch and down to 420,000.

Deeb Demolished, Part II

Livello 23
Chris Lee
Chris Lee

Once again, we join on fourth street. This time, it's three-handed between Travis Pearson, Chris Lee, and Shaun Deeb.

Pearson: (x-x) / {7-Spades}{a-Spades}{q-Hearts}{q-Clubs} / (x)
Lee: (x-x) / {7-Clubs}{a-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{4-Hearts} / (x)
Deeb: (x-x) / {6-Spades}{6-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} / (x)

When we joined on fourth, Deeb had checked his open pair. Pearson made the bet, Lee raised, and Deeb snuck in another raise. Both opponents called, and Deeb led out again on fifth street. Pearson called, Lee raised, and now both Deeb and Pearson were doing the calling. On sixth street, Pearson picked up open queens, and he checked. Lee bet, Deeb called, and Pearson came along as well to make this the biggest pot we've seen in this tournament.

On seventh street, Pearson checked to Lee, and he made the last bet of 30,000. Deeb would spend the next four or five minutes in the tank, agonizing over his spot. He shook his head several times and re-checked his down cards to make sure. He pushed his hat up and rubbed his forehead, then stared up at the ceiling. Up, down, count the chips, stare at the board, back at the chips, up at Lee, ceiling again.

Finally, he tucked them under and surrendered, standing up from his chair with a curse and stomping over to the rail.

Pearson smirked as if he'd hoped Deeb would do the calling, and he eventually decided he could not either.

With one 30,000-chip bullet, Lee takes down the half-million chip pot. He's in the top spot with 570,000 now, and Deeb has been reduced all the way down to just 290,000. That's still almost an average stack right now.

Josh Weiland Eliminated in 10th Place ($17,237)

Josh Weiland - 10th Place
Josh Weiland - 10th Place

Josh Weiland's demise was stretched over the course of three hands of No Limit Hold'emand he's just been busted in tenth place. Here's how it went down:

Chapter I

David Whitis raised to 23,000 from late position and the action folded to Travis Pearson who re-raised to 60,000 from the small blind before Weiland pushed all-in over the top. Whitis folded and Pearson snap-called with his {A-Spades}{A-Diamonds}, which were miles ahead of Weiland's {J-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}.

The board ran out {2-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}, leaving Weiland with less than 50,000 in chips.

Chapter II

Two hands later, Weiland pushed all-in for 39,000 from the cutoff with {A-Clubs}{4-Hearts} and Shaun Deeb iso-raised from the small blind, forcing Whitis out of the way from the big blind. Deeb tabled {K-Hearts}{9-Clubs}, but Weiland ended up with two pair after the dealer spread the board of {Q-Spades}{6-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}{A-Hearts}{J-Hearts}.

Chapter III

In the very next hand, Weiland open-shoved with {A-Spades}{9-Clubs}, but he ran straight into the {9-Spades}{9-Hearts} of Chris Lee. Neither hand improved on the board of {2-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}, and Weiland was no more.

Epilogue

As a result of Weiland's elimination, both Pearson and Lee have now broken the 600K-chip mark.

Fin.

Deeb Rebounding

Livello 23

Limit Hold'em

Shaun Deeb is in no mood to mess around. He'd been worked all the way down to around 150,000 when this hand began. To start, he opened with an under-the-gun raise at the four-handed table. Chris Lee three-bet from his big blind, and Deeb called to go forward.

The flop came {5-Clubs} {4-Diamonds} {6-Clubs}, and Deeb called a bet from Lee. He called another one after the {Q-Diamonds} turn, and both players checked down the {6-Spades} river.

Lee essentially surrendered with a shrug and a motion to muck. Deeb wasn't having it. "Roll it over," he ordered, spinning his finger in the air. He made another quiet comment about wanting to see, and Lee flashed his airball {J-Clubs} {10-Hearts}. Deeb showed {A-Hearts} {3-Diamonds}, and his high card was good enough to move him back up to 240,000 again as he tries to survive this level.

Whitis Gets...

Livello 23

Limit Hold'em

Travis Pearson opened with an under-the-gun raise, and David Whitis defended his big blind.

The flop came {8-Hearts} {3-Diamonds} {7-Diamonds}, and Whitis check-called a bet. He'd do the same after the {2-Clubs} turn and {J-Clubs} river with Pearson barreling the whole way. At showdown, Pearson didn't want to show, and Whitis quickly tabled his {9-Clubs} {9-Spades}. He shot out of his chair with a clap and a, "Wooooo!" running over to the rail where his pals have been cheering him on.

With that pot, Whitis climbs to 300,000 on the dot.

... And Whitis Gives Away

Livello 23

Limit Hold'em

Shaun Deeb raised the button, and David Whitis announced, "Three bets," from the small blind. Deeb flatted, and they took a {3-Diamonds} {3-Clubs} {7-Clubs} flop. Whitis continued out with a bet, Deeb raised, and Whitis called. On the {6-Diamonds} turn, Whitis check-called a big bet of 30,000, and he did the same following the {9-Spades} river.

"Fours?" Deeb half-asked. Whitis craned his neck, and Deeb tabled {4-Hearts} {4-Diamonds}. It was good, and it moves Deeb back up above average. For Whitis, he's lost most of the chips he won one hand prior, slipping back to 205,000.

A Little More Deeb

Livello 23

Limit Hold'em

Under the gun, Shaun Deeb raised, and Chris Lee called from the big blind. The dealer spread {10-Spades} {10-Hearts} {8-Hearts}, and Lee check-called a bet. He checked again after the {2-Clubs} turn, and he gave Deeb's bet an extra stare before releasing. Deeb flashed {A-Spades} {10-Diamonds} and made a comment that Lee looked like he wanted to make a move.

Deeb finds himself back up to 415,000 again. If you were following the coverage earlier, you've seen this roller-coaster before.

Kevin Chance: {6-Spades}{6-Hearts} / {6-Clubs}{10-Spades}{A-Clubs}{5-Spades} / {10-Spades}
Don McNamara: {x-}{x-} / {3-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{7-Spades}{5-Hearts} / {x-} -- MUCKED
John D'Agostino: {x-}{x-} / {J-Diamonds}{4-Spades} -- FOLDED

On third street, Kendall Fukumoto brought in with the {2-Diamonds} showing, McNamara completed and D'Agostino and Chance called before Chance opened the betting on fourth street. McNamara called and D'Agostino folded, then McNamara called Chance all the way down to the river before mucking his hand after Chance tabled sixes full.

Deeb's Back in Business

Badugi

As the big hand between Kevin Chance and Don McNamara played out on the other table, we whipped around to see Shaun Deeb raking in a massive pot from Travis Pearson. As the dealer recalled to us, they played out a massive hand of badugi and Deeb ended up with an {a-}{3-}{4-}{7-} badugi against Pearson's {a-}{6-}{7-}{x-} badugi.

Suffice it to say that Mr. Deeb is all smiles now that he's chipped up again!
