Giorno 1d iniziato
It's the final starting flight of the 2023 WPT World Championship and it looks highly likely that the lofty $40 million guarantee is going to be met. With 2,312 entries over the course of the first three starting flights, just over 1800 players are needed today.
At time of writing there are 838 players seated in Day 1d, with play midway through the first level of the day.
Late registration is open until the end of Level 7 (approx. 18:45) at which point we'll see just how big the prize pool has gotten!
When Day 1c finally drew to a close yesterday, 360 players bagged up chips, but no one had a larger stack in their bag than Kyle Ho, who finished the session with 1,211,000 chips. The largest stack during the previous two starting flights was Jeff Hakim on Day 1a with 998,000.
Ho wasn't the only player on Thursday to finish with over 1 million chips. Chance Kornuth ended with 1,130,000, and 2019 WSOP Main Event champion Hossein Ensan filled his bag with 1,100,000 chips.
The World Poker Tour media team caught up with defending WPT World Championship champion Eliot Hudon before play got underway today.
"It feels great to be back," said Hudon. "The playing experience is amazing here. The combination of Wynn and WPT is very enjoyable.
"Obviously getting to defend my title is exciting! Hopefully I make it to Day 2. It's a tournament like any other tournament. If I bust early, I bust early. If I make a deep run, I make a deep run. We'll see!"
The clocks in the Encore Ballroom here at the Wynn show that Day 1d has 1,120 entries so far, bringing the total number of entries so far to 3,432.
Late registration remains open until the start of Level 7 at approximately 18:45 local time.
Many members of the WPT World Championship field won their way to the $40 million guaranteed event on ClubWPT.
PokerNews got to speak with a handful of qualifiers that we'll be keeping an eye on over the course of the next week.
Some poker greats from near and far have traveled to the WPT World Championship in time for Day 1d, including former WPT Player of the Year winners Faraz Jaka and Jacob Ferro, WPT Honors recipient Lyle Berman and defending champion Eliot Hudon who is back in action after busting late on Day 1c.
