Ponakovs Returns New-Found Wealth
Aleksejs Ponakovs limped in from the small blind with A♦7♣ and Barny Boatman raised to 900,000 from the big blind with 9♦9♣. Ponakovs then checked to Boatman on the A♠9♠10♦ flop and the latter put out a bet of 850,000.
Ponakovs made the call before he checked again on the 2♥ turn. This time, he faced a bet of 1,500,000 from Boatman and he put in another call. The 6♣ river then finished the board and Boatman sized up to 6,500,000.
A quick call followed from Ponakovs, who saw the bad news at showdown. His top pair was no good against the set of Boatman, and Ponakovs went right back to being the shortest stack after doubling up just one hand before.
