Van Luijk Cracks Wenzelburger's Aces to Double

Livello 29 : Blinds 50,000/100,000, 100,000 ante
Derk van Luijk
Derk van Luijk

Philipp Wenzelburger found AA in the hijack and raised to 200,000. Derk van Luijk, the short stack at the table, discovered AJ on the button and decided to go all in. It was an easy call for Wenzelburger.

As the flop revealed 286, there was much hope for Van Luijk as he acquired a flush draw. The J on the turn added another out with the last jack in the deck. True to hope, the J appeared on the river, granting Van Luijk trips and a double-up.

Cibicek Flops Trips but Doesn't Get Paid

Livello 29 : Blinds 50,000/100,000, 100,000 ante

Boris Angelov initiated the action from early position with a raise to 200,000 holding A8. The table remained quiet, with only Jozef Cibicek calling from the big blind with Q4.

On the flop QQ2, Cibicek checked his trip queens, prompting Angelov to make a continuation bet of 115,000. Angelov folded swiftly after Cibicek raised to 265,000.

Angelov Drops One to Nasreddine, Then Picks Up Kings

Livello 29 : Blinds 50,000/100,000, 100,000 ante

Boris Angelov raised to 210,000 in the hijack and Rania Nasreddine called on the button.

Both players checked the AJ8 flop. Angelov also checked the 8 turn and Nasreddine bet 215,000. Angelov called.

The 9 river was also checked through and Nasreddine showed A2 to win the pot.

The next hand, Jonathan Guedes raised to 200,000 under the gun and Angelov three-bet to 630,000 in middle position after picking up KK.

Derk van Luijk tanked for a minute and used two time banks before folding AJ, but Guedes called to see the 3107 flop. Angelov then bet 500,000 and Guedes folded AQ.

Kenjic Gets a Bit Back

Livello 29 : Blinds 50,000/100,000, 100,000 ante

In the very next hand after Jovan Kenjic paid Rania Nasreddine, he found 88 under the gun and raised to 200,000. Everyone folded to Derk van Luijk, who was sitting in the big blind and called with 109.

On the flop of 39A, Van Luijk check-called the 100,000 bet of Kenjic.

Both players checked the turn J.

The river brought the 5, completing the flush for Kenjic. Van Luijk again checked to Kenjic, who bet 325,000, securing the 1,075,000 pot

Nasreddine Takes the Lead With Big River Raise

Jovan Kenjic raised to 200,000 in early position and Rania Nasreddine called in the big blind.

Kenjic bet 125,000 on the 737 flop and Nasreddine called. Both players checked the 8 turn.

The river was the 5 and Kenjic bet 1,000,000. Nasreddine then slid forward a tower of red 100,000 chips for a raise to 2,000,000.

"Why not all in?" Kenjic asked as he went deep into the tank. He ended up using five time banks before announcing a call.

Nasreddine then showed A8 for two pair. "Oh no," Kenjic said as he mucked 98, giving up the massive pot and, with it, the tournament chip lead.

Catch Up on Yesterday's EPT Main Event Action

Livello 28 : Blinds 40,000/80,000, 80,000 ante
Philipp Wenzelburger
Philipp Wenzelburger

It was nothing short of an explosive Day 4 from start to finish in the PokerStars European Poker Tour Monte Carlo €5,300 Main Event.

It all began with a flurry of bustouts that saw 14 players hit the rail during the first level of play at Sporting Monte-Carlo. We've seen hero calls, a chip leader emerge from the ashes, and a bluff gone wrong that left one of the remaining 16 players with just a single big blind as chips were bagged and tagged.

The player who thrived the most in the madness was Philipp Wenzelburger, who was down to just 13 big blinds early in the day only to win three huge hands in a row to take the overall chip lead. Wenzelburger returned for only his second EPT Monte Carlo. In his first, at the 2016 EPT Monte Carlo, he gained a huge chip lead in the €1,100 FPS Main Event only to bust in 21st place, earning himself the nickname "German Train".
